WebYou can remove the spindles with a saws all, but it will take some heavy sanding to get the spindle marks not to show. From the pictures posted, I don't see a correlation between the spindles, cap and anything else in the space. Cut the spindles (they are trim, not load bearing) twice in the center. Pull the pieces straight up or straight down.
